The Creative Nature Photographic Experience will be run professional photographer Andrew Aveley. He will be guiding photographic guests of any level to go out and enjoy the beauty and richness of this small piece of Africa. By joining him, you will also be able to make use of the specialized photographic vehicle fitted with Gimpro mounts and also the awesome Canon combination of a 7D MK II and 100-400 Mk II (Or your own personal gear) and his wealth of knowledge.
You may ask how this differs from the standard photography activity on offer at the lodge, so here is how Andrew explains it.
“The experience will include personal instruction on all things related to Wildlife and Nature photography. From composition, settings and techniques while on drive at any specific sighting, I will be on hand to help you hone your skills and share new ideas and creatively inspire you. Optional image reviews can be carried out each day before afternoon activity along with any other questions you may have. Once you have been on this experience, you will be more in tune with your photography and be able to get out and get #creatingphotography”
Andrew Aveley is a vibrant and passionate professional nature photographer who continually strives to help all who travel with him to push their own personal photographic boundaries mentally and physically while out in the field. With years of technical and practical training, the quality of information will ensure that all photographers walk away with some new skills. A true professional in all levels of his craft, he has a wide portfolio of work from his extensive travels throughout Africa. To ensure his guests get the complete package beyond just photography, he is a qualified RSA Tour guide and is also registered with FGASA (Field Guides Association of South Africa) to ensure you get the best national and international standards of services possible.
The Terrapin Hide is a submerged, water level photographic hide located in the middle of the Jaci’s Lodges waterhole. The low angle gives our guests a unique opportunity to capture eye level images of the plethora of animal life that visits the waterhole daily. You might even get lucky and get to capture images of an elusive leopard, swimming elephants or wild dogs from the safety of the hide.
The hide is accessible to all of our guests, 24 hours a day, seven days a week via an under ground / under water tunnel.
It is fully equipped with Red LED interior lights, spotlights & a radio should you need to order your G&T in the late afternoon.
The West facing hide guarantees soft morning light & warm, backlit silhouettes in the late afternoon.
The Jaci’s Daily Photographic Drives gives all our guests the opportunity to learn about photography, and capture those iconic “safari” images without having to invest in their own kit.
The Photographic Vehicle seats 4 guests, each guest has the opportunity to use our professional level DSLR camera and 100 – 400 lens, at the same being taught the necessary skills by our Photographic Tutor
Our Daily Photographic Safari goes out on an activity every evening and every morning, giving you the opportunity to experience the soft morning light, or get some dusty backlit images that Madikwe is known for.
Under the guidance of our photographic tutor, you can go from NOT knowing how to operate a DSLR camera, to capturing spectacular images in a matter of a few hours. After the safari, you remove the memory card, and head back to your normal safari routine, or book for another photographic safari activity.
The “Gimpro” Game Viewer camera mounts allow for stable low light shooting & take the weight of the camera off your hands
