Appetite is definitely intensified by outdoor activities and fresh air, so eating out in the bush is usually a favourite moment for the guests at the lodge. After arriving back at the lodge after morning game drive, the family were lead down the river path, where the chefs were waiting with a beautiful and very colourful meal.

I had never heard of such a thing as orange poached eggs before in my life and I must admit, I thought our head chef Virginia was getting a tiny bit over-adventurous in her ways. It looked interesting, to say the least and I was glad to have been invited. Intrigued, I also grabbed the camera, to be sure to capture the beautiful looking orange-eggs being cooked on the fire.

Other creatures were also drawn in by the sights and scents of the food. Luckily the vervet monkeys know to keep their distance and aren’t the nuisance they often become in other reserves. So, while the guests were eating in peace, the smaller primates were watching from the heights of the trees, waiting for their chance. The more brave babblers and hornbills however came a fair bit closer making their presence known… and loudly so.

When time came to try out the culinary skills of the chef team, I only heard praise of the eggs from the breakfast table and I couldn’t wait to have a chance myself  to taste it. Funny enough, orange-eggs work! Not only is it edible… it’s really really delicious! I am most definitely going to try this trick out for myself next time I go camping, it will be a sure hit.
