We launched our Jaci’s Lodges Guest Conservation Contribution (GCC) in Mid-April with the aim of highlighting conservation work being done within the reserve, as well as create a platform where guests can directly contribute to assist the conservation teams.
We have finally broken through and had huge success: an intelligence driven operation led to the arrest of two poachers just outside the game reserve, as well as the arrest of an accomplice who was assisting them in from within the game reserve. This brings the total of arrests on Madikwe to 10, along with the confiscation of 2 vehicles and other equipment used in poaching activities, since the end of February 2017
We have been having regular discussions with all of our guests to highlight the rhino poaching crisis, conservation work being done as well as other projects that are happening within the game reserve, and our guests, to date, have generously donated a total of R50 540.
We recently hosted a group of American Educational Group in Jaci’s Tree lodge, and they were so moved by the plight of the Rhino’s that they clubbed together and collectively donated R2860 of their own travelling “pocket money” to the cause. They will be compiling a blog about their experience and we will share it with you.
These funds have been well utilised by the Anti Poaching unit / Conservation team as well as educational conservation in the community via Bopa Monyetla.
The Field Rangers and APU teams are buoyed by the ongoing support that is being shown by you, our guests, to their commitment to preserving, protection and conserving the animals within Madikwe Game Reserve
Without you, this would not be possible! All of us at Jaci’s Lodges would like to extend our sincerest gratitude for your generosity and support! We hope to welcome you all back soon to come and see, first hand, what actions have been taken.
